As Foreign Travellers Flock In, Mumbai Hospital Readies 14-Bed Ward For Mpox As Precautionary Measure

Mumbai: In a proactive move to mitigate the potential spread of monkeypox, Seven Hills Hospital in Mumbai has established a dedicated 14-bed ward as a precautionary measure. While no confirmed cases have been reported in India yet, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken swift action in line with government guidelines.

The BMC’s Public Health Department has been closely monitoring international travel trends, particularly from countries like Pakistan and Sweden where monkeypox cases have been detected. Given Mumbai’s high volume of foreign visitors, the authorities have implemented stringent precautions to safeguard public health.

Dr Pradnya Pawar, Assistant Medical Superintendent at Seven Hills Hospital, underlined the hospital’s preparedness. “We have set up a specialised isolation ward and ICU for monkeypox patients,” she stated. “While no cases have been reported in India, we are prepared to handle any potential outbreak.”

The hospital has identified key symptoms of monkeypox, including rashes, fever, cough and sore throat. It’s important to note that some individuals may experience asymptomatic infections.
