Hidden Camera Found in Girls’ Hostel Washroom of Andhra Engineering College; CM Orders Probe

Hyderabad: Students took up a massive protest at an engineering college in the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh as a hidden camera was discovered in a toilet of the girls’ hostel. It was alleged that the videos from the camera were allegedly being circulated among the students.

Police have registered a case in connection with the incident and a final-year student has been detained.

A student found the camera inside the campus hostel of Gudlavalleru College of Engineering and it led to a protest on Thursday night by the students.

According to students, over 300 videos were allegedly recorded and allegedly circulated. The students demanded strict action against those behind the hidden camera and involved in circulating the videos.

The identity of the detained student has not been disclosed by the police, and further investigations are ongoing.

However, the college administration claimed that no hidden cameras were found in the girls’ hostel and stated that they are cooperating with the police probe. Further investigation is underway.

An official statement from the chief minister’s office said Naidu had ordered an inquiry into the incident and directed district minister Kollu Ravindra and the SP to talk to the students to ascertain the facts.

Taking to X, state education minister Nara Lokesh said that he has ordered the concerned authorities for details and assured strict action against the culprits and those responsible.

“I have asked the authorities for details about the protest of female students at Gudlavalleru Engineering College of Krishna District. I have ordered an inquiry into the allegations of hidden cameras. Strict action will be taken against the culprits and those responsible if it is found that they have committed a mistake in the investigation. Managements should take early steps without ragging and harassment in colleges,” Lokesh wrote on X.
