Union Min Athawale Wants Odisha Govt to Implement 27% Reservation for OBCs in Higher Education

Bhubaneswar: Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Ramdas Athawale on Wednesday requested the Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to implement 27 per cent reservation for OBC students in higher education in the state.

Speaking to newsmen, the Union Minister, who is on a two-day official visit to Odisha, said that he will write to Odisha CM requesting him to provide 27 per cent reservation for OBC students in higher education.

“Several other states are providing 27 per cent reservation for OBC students in higher education institutes. If this has not been implemented in Odisha, I will formally request the Chief Minister to address this issue”, he said.

He also expressed concern over the increasing incidents of atrocities against Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) in Odisha and said he will take up the matter with the Odisha Governor and Chief Minister.
