Ward Boy Arrested For Allegedly Molesting Woman at Children’s Hospital in Kolkata

Kolkata: A 26-year-old woman was allegedly molested by a health worker while she was sleeping in a government hospital in Kolkata, where her child was undergoing treatment. The incident occurred at the Institute of Child Health (ICH), where her ailing child had been admitted.

According to the complaint filed by the victim, the accused, Tanay Pal (26), who is a ward boy at the hospital, entered the children’s ward and inappropriately touched and disrobed her. He also allegedly recorded the incident on his mobile phone.

This case comes just weeks after a trainee doctor was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. In that incident, a civic volunteer named Sanjay Roy was arrested.

Following the complaint, Kolkata Police registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and arrested Tanay Pal. His mobile phone was seized and sent for forensic analysis. Pal was later presented in court, which remanded him to police custody.

In a separate incident earlier this month, a man was arrested for allegedly molesting an on-duty nurse in a government hospital in Birbhum district, West Bengal. The nurse was administering a saline drip when the patient, who had been brought in for treatment of a high fever, allegedly touched her inappropriately and used offensive language. He was subsequently arrested.
