Rogue Elephant Fitted With GPS-Enabled Radio Collar for Location Tracking in Sundargarh Dist

Bhubaneswar: A rogue wild elephant that reportedly killed 15 persons was tranquilized and fitted with a radio collar in at Toda Forest under Koida range of Sundargarh district on Wednesday.

A team of 60 officials and personnel from the state forest department, along with experts from Rourkela, Bonai, Satakosia and Kapilas were involved in this operation. After being fitted with the radio collar, the wild elephant was released into the forest.

According to forest officials, the GPS-enabled radio collar will enable tracking the location of the elephant to prevent future human-elephant conflicts.

But the locals demanded the forest officials to relocate the rogue elephant to some other area.
