Israeli Man Involved in Iranian-Backed Plot to Kill PM Netanyahu Arrested

An Israeli citizen has been arrested for his suspected involvement in an Iranian-backed assassination plot targeting prominent people including the prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, announced Israeli security services on Thursday.

The arrested man was a businessman with connections in Turkey. He had allegedly attended at least two meetings in Iran to discuss the possibility of assassinating Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defence Minister Yoav Gallant or the head of the Shin Bet domestic intelligence agency.

He was arrested in August, stated a joint statement by Shin Bet and the Israeli police.

A week back, Shin Bet unearthed a plot by the Lebanese group Hezbollah to kill the former army Chief of Staff and Defence Minister Moshe Ya’alon.
