11 Burglars of “Chaddi Gang” Nabbed in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: As many as 11 persons of the inter-state “chaddi baniyan gang” were arrested in Bhubaneswar on Monday night. This gang was involved in several cases of burglaries in different parts of Bhubaneswar.

The arrested accused persons were from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand.

They were apprehended by cops near Tarekswar temple along the Daya river during night patrolling at Dhauli. They have committed burglaries in Puri, Khordha, Bhadrak and other districts apart from the State Capital, police informed in an official release.

Two sly wrenches, two house-breaking instruments, four screwdrivers, 12 robbed gold bangles, metal idols, and Rs 6,400 cash were recovered from their possession.  among other incriminating items.

For the past few months, they had committed burglaries in Dhauli, Badgad, Laxmisagar, Airport and Airfield areas of Bhubaneswar.

Because of the attire, the gang members wear during their burglaries, they are known as the “Chadi Baniyan” gang. They used to break into houses between 2 am to 4 am.

They commit crimes tying their dress around their waist and without any footwear. The arrested persons were active in Odisha for the last one year.

They were staying as a group at railway stations in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Puri. They worked as labourers during the day and were involved in burglaries during night.
