2 Killed 1 Injured in Elephant Attack in Angul, Road Blocked Over Compensation

Angul: A wild elephant trampled two persons to death at Pateli village in Angul district of Odisha on Thursday. Another person was seriously injured by a tusker near Saharguda village of the district.

This stray tusker has turned a menace in the area for the last few days. On Thursday morning, it attacked 42-year-old Jhili Majhi in front of her house in the Pateli village. Later the pachyderm also lethally injured Shankar Biswal (62) of the same area. Both victims died on the spot. The victim also succumbed to his injuries on the spot.

One Akshaya Nayak of the adjacent Saharaguda village sustained critical injuries in the elephant attack. He was admitted to the Angul District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.

Angry locals blocked the Angul-Bantala road by burning tyres following these elephant attacks. They demanded immediate payment of compensation for the family members of the deceased and measures to end the wild elephant menace.
