Thiruvananthapuram: An exchange of fire occurred between a special operations team of the Kerala Police and Maoists in the Wayanad district of Kerala on Tuesday night. Two suspected naxalites were taken into custody from the spot. Search to track down the others in the Maoist group is underway.

As per reports, a five-member ‘Maoist’ group that had entered the Thalappuzha region in Kerala was surrounded by the Special Operation Group (SOG) and the Thunderbolt Squad.

This led to a 30-minute long exchange of fire. Two Maoists identified as Chandru and Unnimaya were arrested, while others managed to escape.

Kerala Police teams had launched this combing operation in the area as per the information received from a Maoist sympathiser apprehended earlier in the day in Kozhikode district.
