Alarming Rise in Male Suicide Rate in India

Indian males are becoming vulnerable to suicide, according to recent data analysis.

As per the data of the National Crime Records Bureau, the suicide rate among daily wage earners rose by 166% increase between 2014 and 2021.

In 2014 there were 15,735 reported suicide cases of daily wagers. In 2021 this number rose to 41,997 suicides.

The rate of increase in suicides of male daily wage earners was 170.7%, which jumped from 13,944 in 2014 to 37,751 in 2021.

This indicates that relative to women, more men are resorting to suicide.

According to a report in The Statesman, the suicide rate among currently married men stands at 24.3, a staggering three times higher than the rate among currently married women, which is 8.4.
