7 Dead, Over 40 Injured As Express Train Collides With Stationary Passenger Train In Andhra

Vizianagaram: A collision between two trains in Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagaram district has resulted in tragedy, with seven passengers losing their lives and more than 40 others sustaining injuries. The incident occurred on Sunday when a passenger train travelling from Visakhapatnam to Rayagada collided with the Palasa Express, which was en route to Visakhapatnam. This collision led to the derailment of three coaches from the Visakhapatnam-Rayagada train, as confirmed by railway officials.

East Central Railway CPRO stated, “Bogies derailed after a train travelling along with passengers from Vizianagaram to Raigad hit a passenger train travelling on the same route from Visakhapatnam to Palasa.” While injuries were reported, the exact number is yet to be determined. Both trains were involved in the accident, and the rescue and restoration efforts are currently underway.

In response to the incident, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has issued immediate orders to provide relief and assistance. Ambulances from Visakhapatnam and nearby districts in Vizianagaram are being dispatched to the scene, and arrangements are being made at nearby hospitals to ensure the injured receive prompt medical care. The Chief Minister has also instructed railway authorities to collaborate with other government departments, including health, police, and revenue, to ensure swift relief measures and efficient medical services for the injured.

This tragic event comes just months after a major accident occurred when the Coromandel Express collided with a stationary freight train at Bahanaga Bazar station in Balasore on June 2, resulting in the loss of at least 288 lives and over 1,100 people sustaining injuries.
