Another NEET Aspirant Ends Life in Kota, 16 Suicides 7 Months

Kota: A 17-year-old boy committed suicide on Monday, a week after he arrived in Kota to prepare for medical entrance exam. With his death, the total number of student suicides in Kota since January rose to 16.

Fifteen students died by suicide in Kota in 2022. But in 2023, the number has already reached 16 in July. In June, two students ended lives in Kota in two days. In May, there were five student suicides in Kota.

The recent deceased was a teenager named Pushpendra Singh from Jalore. He had enrolled with a coaching centre in Kota a week back to prepare for NEET. On Monday morning, he was found dead at his hostel. He has not left behind any suicide note.

Kota is the entrance coaching hub of the country. Lakhs of students from all over the country get admitted to classroom coaching centres in Kota to prepare for competitive exams get admitted to the country’s top engineering and medical colleges.

Pressure of studies and the fear of failure at times creates suicidal tendency in some of these students.
