As ‘Junior Rakshak’ Odisha NCC Cadets to Provide First Aid to Accident Victims

Bhubaneswar: NCC cadets will be deployed as ‘Junior Rakshak’ to provide first aid to road accident victims in Odisha as part of a collaborative initiative of the State Transport Department and the National Cadet Corps (NCC).

An MoU for the purpose was signed at the Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik addressed the event virtually.

As part of the initiative, the State Transport Department will train around 62,000 NCC cadets to save the lives of those injured in road accidents by acting as first responders and providing them with first aid. They will be trained at various NCC camps in the state.

The department has set a target of training around 20,000 NCC cadets every year.

In 2021, the Odisha CM launched the ‘Rakshak’ program to save the lives of road accident victims within the ‘golden hour’ by providing prompt and effective first aid, and transportation to the nearest hospital. More than 12,000 first responders have so far been trained in the state.
