Asia Cup 2023, IND v BAN: India Opt to Bowl, Eye Bench Strength Assessment Before WC

Colombo: India will face Bangladesh in the final Super Fours match of the 2023 Asia Cup today at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. The Men in Blue have already secured their spot in the final by defeating Nepal and Pakistan in the league stage.

India’s bowling coach, Paras Mhambrey, expressed his satisfaction with the return of Jasprit Bumrah, highlighting its positive impact on the pace unit. He mentioned that the team now boasts four quality bowlers, providing valuable options for the squad.

Regarding Mohammed Shami, Mhambrey acknowledged the difficulty of dropping such an experienced player. He emphasized the importance of clear communication with players and their confidence in the coaching staff’s decisions for the benefit of the team.

Mhambrey also praised the development of Hardik Pandya, emphasizing their efforts to manage his workload and keep him fit. He noted that Pandya’s ability to consistently bowl at 140 kmph makes him a valuable wicket-taking option for the team.

Discussing Tilak Varma, Mhambrey mentioned his long-standing association with the young player since his U-19 days and the ongoing work to enhance his bowling skills. He suggested that if the captain gains confidence in Varma’s bowling abilities, it could expand his role in the team.

On the other side, Bangladesh enter the match with two losses against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Mhambrey acknowledged Bangladesh’s competitiveness in recent years and their emerging fast bowling group, emphasizing the need for India to perform at their best in the upcoming game.
