Assam CM Instructs DGP to Register Against Rahul Gandhi for Provoking Crowd During His Yatra

Guwahati: During the Congress’ Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, a clash broke out between police and Congress workers in Assam’s Guwahati on Tuesday.

Following this incident, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the state DGP had been instructed to register a case against Rahul Gandhi for provoking the crowd.

This incident occurred when the Rahul Gandhi-led Yatra was stopped from entering Guwahati. It sparked protests from the Congress workers who broke barricades and raised slogans.

The Assam police personnel used force to stop the Congress supporters from moving forward into the restricted area.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier said that the Rahul Gandhi-led Yatra would not be allowed to enter Guwahati city to avoid traffic jams.

But large crowds had gathered at Guwahati Chowk in Khanapara. The crowd welcomed the Congress leader with slogans and the beating of drums.

“We have won as we have broken the barricades,” AICC in-charge for Assam Jitendra Singh said.

The Yatra, which entered Meghalaya on Monday, returned to Assam for its last leg. It will now travel through the outskirts of Guwahati as it is not allowed inside. The Yatra would be in Assam till Thursday.
