Astronaut Kalpana Chawla’s Father Passes Away, Body Donated to Medical College

Astronaut Kalpana Chawla’s father Banarsi Lal Chawla died of age-related illness on Tuesday in Karnal of Haryana. He was around 90.

As per the his own desire and wish of his family, his body will be donated to Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College in Karnal for research.

Chawla was admitted to a private hospital.

His daughter, Kalpana Chawla (17 March 1962 – 1 February 2003) was the first India-born astronaut in space.

She was one of the seven crew members who died in the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster in 2003.
