At Least 5 Killed in Militant Attacks During Polling in Pakistan

At least five died in militant attacks during the polling process for general elections in Pakistan on Thursday. The caretaker government in Pakistan temporarily suspended mobile phone services across the country and closed land borders with neighbouring countries during the voting process.

Four policemen were killed in a bomb blast and firing targeting a police patrol in the Kulachi area of Dera Ismail Khan district in the northwest.

A man died when gunmen opened fire on a security forces vehicle in Tank. Grenade attacks were also reported in different parts of Balochistan. But Pak authorities claimed that polling remained unaffected since there were no casualties.

On Wednesday, at least 26 people were killed in two explosions near electoral candidates’ offices in the southwestern province of Balochistan. Islamic State claimed responsibility for those attacks.
