Bangladesh Cricket Board Seeks Army’s Assistance To Host Women’s T20 World Cup

The Bangladesh Cricket Board requested the country’s army chief for assistance and assurance to conduct the women’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in Bangladesh from October 3-20.

According to Cricbuzz, the BCB has written to Bangladesh’s army chief of staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman seeking security assurance for organising the tournament.

As per the schedule, the women’s T20 World Cup is to be held in Bangladesh’s Sylhet and Mirpur.

The warm-up round for the women’s T20 World Cup is set to begin on September 27.

After the recent turmoil in the country, the ICC is montoring the situation. According to reports, the ICC is also thinking of shifting the venue of the T20 Women’s World Cup to India, Sri Lanka or UAE.

The current BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon has also fled the country along with a few others board directors.

The other directors of the BCB, who are still in Dhaka are making efforts to have the tournament in Bangladesh.

“We are trying to host the tournament.” “To be honest, there are not too many among us present in the country and on Thursday (August 8) we have sent a letter to the Army Chief regarding assurance about the security of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup as we have only two months in hand,” said BCB umpiring committee chairman Iftekhar Ahmed Mithu.
