Bihar Court Sentences MLA, 22 Others to Life Imprisonment in Murder Case

Patna: A court in Bihar on Tuesday sentenced life imprisonment to CPI (ML) MLA Manoj Manzil and 22 others in a murder case on Tuesday.

The Ara MP/MLA court additional district judge–III Satyendra Singh convicted these 23 persons including the sitting MLA in a murder case of a farmer named Jai Prakash Singh in 2015. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on each convict.

Singh was killed on August 20, 2015, in retaliation after the murder of a CPI(ML) member Satish Yadav at Bargaon in the district.

Convicted Manoj Manzil is a first-time MLA from the Agiaon constituency in Bhojpur district. Following this conviction in the murder case, he is expected to lose his membership of the Bihar Assembly. His party CPI (ML) with 12 MLAs is a part of the opposition Mahagathbandan in Bihar.

Manoj Manzil won while in jail and was released on bail in 2022.
