Bihar Woman Conceives Twice After Family Planning Operation in 2015

Patna: Despite undergoing a sterilization operation in 2015, a woman in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur is reported to have conceived twice.

This mother of six children, whose husband is a migrant menial labourer in Haryana, underwent a family planning operation at Gaighat Primary Health Centre in 2015. At that time, the couple had three daughters and a son. Because of the rising financial burden, they did not want any more children.

But even after the sterilization operation, she has given birth to a child and has recently discovered that she is expecting another child.

In 2018, the district magistrate ordered an inquiry into the matter and the couple was given Rs 6,000 as compensation for the failed operation by the then civil surgeon at the health centre.

The couple said they have been visiting the family planning centre for years to complain about the failed procedure and for action to be taken against the doctor who performed the sterilization operation.
