Body of Fugitive Theft Accused Found in Mahanadi at Jobra in Cuttack

Cuttack: The body of an accused in a theft case who had managed to escape from the clutches of the police and jumped into the Mahanadi River a day back was recovered near Jobra barrage in Cuttack on Saturday.

The deceased is suspected to be Shankarshan Behera alias Babul. He was detained by police on Friday in connection to a theft case. But he managed to escape from the Cantonment Police Station and jumped into the Mahanadi River to evade arrest. The firefighters had tried to search for him in the water body but failed to trace him.

On Saturday morning his body was found floating in the river near Jobra barrage. Police officials said the identity of the deceased would be confirmed only after his family members identify it.

As per reports, Shankarshan runs a fast-food shop in Bhubaneswar. He was nabbed by police on July 19 in connection to a theft case. He was handed over to the Cantonment Police following detention.
