Breach in OPGC Ash Pond in Jhasuguda Dist, Ash Slurry Inundates Adjoining Area

Jharsuguda:  A major breach occurred in the wall of a fly ash pond of Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC)’s thermal plant in the Ib Valley of Jharsuguda district.

The ash slurry has started to flow out via the 20-foot breach towards the neighbouring villages. The ash water has flooded farmlands on the outskirts of Saradhapali. As per reports, the slurry has started entering the village.

Sources said panicked villagers have started to vacate their houses. OPGC authorities have reached the spot and trying to take remedial measures to stop the ash slurry from flowing out.
