Vetaran Kananada Actor Leelavathi Passes Away at 85

Bengaluru: Veteran Kannada actor Leelavathi breathed her last on Friday due to age-related ailments. She was 85.

She has acted in over 600 films. She has acted with cine-legend Dr Rajkumar in several films. Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, paid tribute to her on X (formerly Twitter).

Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister, D K Shivakumar, paid their last respects to her on Saturday.

Leelavathi made her film debut in the late 50s. She was an iconic figure in the world of South Indian cinema.

She starred in successful Kannada films like ‘Kulavadhu’, ‘Valmiki’, ‘Karuneye Kutumbada Kannu’, ‘Tumbida Koda’, ‘Premamayi’, ‘Santha Tukaram Bhagyadevathe’, ‘Bhakta Kumabara’. She will continue to be cherished by fans and her legacy will remain an integral part of the history of Kannada cinema.
