Budget 2024: 40,000 Rail Coaches to be Transformed to Vande Bharat Standards

New Delhi: Continuing the efforts to enhance rail connectivity and passenger comfort, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in her Budget 2024 speech said 40,000 normal train coaches will be converted to Vande Bharat standards.

Sitharaman said the standard of these normal railway coaches will be enhanced for the “safety, convenience and comfort” of passengers.

The Vande Bharat train coaches are fully air-conditioned and equipped with electric outlets, reading lights, CCTV cameras, automatic doors, bio-vacuum toilets, Sensor-based water taps and passenger information systems. These coaches have wider windows with roller blinds and overhead racks for luggage.
