Rs 244.77Cr Sanctioned for Wagon Overhauling Workshop in  Kantabanji of Balangir Dist

Bhubaneswar: The Railway Board approved Rs 244.7 crore for the establishment of a Wagon Periodic Overhauling (PoH) unit at Kantabanji in Balangir district. Following this, the Ministry of Railways gave a green signal to the project.

A Detailed Project Report (DPR) of this project was submitted in September 2023.

This proposed wagon PoH workshop will have the capacity for 200 wagons. It will be set up on a patch of land with the Railways at Kantabanji.

The establishment of a wagon PoH workshop is expected to increase the freight traffic in this region. It will also enable regular overhauling of wagons for safe train operations. The life span of wagons will increase decreasing the expenditure on replacements.

These apart, wagon maintenance will improve efficiency and reliability, resulting in better performance and reduced downtime. The establishment of the wagon PoH workshop at Kantabanji underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing railway infrastructure and ensuring the safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of the railway system.
