CBI Raids NewsClick Founder’s Home, Office, to Investigate FCRA Violation

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday carried out searches at the residence and office of NewsClick founder Prabir Purkayastha.

The CBI has registered an FIR into the alleged violation of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) by news portal NewsClick.

NewsClick founder Prabir Purkayastha was recently arrested by the Delhi Police in a case under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. More than 45 people connected with the news portal were also interrogated.

Investigative agencies allege that the NewsClick portal received foreign funds from China in violation of the FCRA regulations.

According to the Delhi Police FIR, a large amount of funds was fraudulently infused into NewsClick by the propaganda department of the Communist Party of China through Neville Roy Singham, to “disrupt the sovereignty of India” and cause disaffection against the country.

The NewsClick portal has denied the allegation.
