Congress Takes Aim at BJP’s ‘Modi Ka Parivar’, Criticizes Shift from Real Issues

New Delhi: The Congress party has launched a counter-offensive in response to the BJP’s social media campaign urging leaders to add “Modi Ka Parivar” (Modi’s Family) to their profiles. The BJP campaign comes after RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s remarks mocking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not having a family.

Congress leaders have accused the BJP of deflecting attention away from pressing issues. K C Venugopal, Congress general secretary organisation, pointed to the enthusiastic reception for the “INDIA bloc” in Patna, suggesting the BJP’s campaign reflects anxiety over growing opposition unity.

Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh also took a swipe at the BJP, stating they can no longer use nepotism (parivarvaad) as a political weapon.

Pawan Khera, Congress’ media department head, remarked on the potential awkwardness of some BJP leaders adopting the “Modi Ka Parivar” tag.

Meanwhile, the BJP defended the campaign, with national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi highlighting what he sees as a long history of personal attacks directed at Prime Minister Modi by opposition parties. Trivedi framed the campaign as a show of solidarity around the party leader.

This strategy mirrors the BJP’s “Main Bhi Chowkidar” (I am also a watchman) campaign launched in the 2019 general election, a response to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s “Chowkidar Chor Hai” (The watchman is a thief) slogan targeting Modi.
