Balangir: The Congress party is observing a 12-hour bandh in Kantabanji in Odisha’s Balangir district on Tuesday over the death threat issued to the local MLA and senior party leader Santosh Singh Saluja.

The bandh call is from 6 am to 6 pm. Local leaders of the party alleged that the police have failed to take proper action to nab the culprits behind the death threats to the legislator. The Congress leaders demanded immediate arrests of the persons involved in the death threats to the MLA.

The members of the Congress party demonstrated and picketed at different places in Kantabanji urging the business community to support the bandh and close their offices and shops till evening.

The party exempted educational institutes and their vehicles from the bandh as the matric examinations are starting on Tuesday.

Some posters and banners threatening to kill Congress leader and Kantabanji MLA Santosh Singh Saluja within 15 days had come up mysteriously in Balangir district on Monday morning.

Although a picture of a man was also added to the banners, the person has not been identified.
