Delhi Services Act Becomes Law With Prez Murmu’s Nod

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu gave assent to four bills passed during the monsoon session of the parliament on Saturday. They included the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, The Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, The Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, and Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill. Now these have become laws.

The Centre’s law on control of services in the national capital replaces an ordinance that wrested control over Delhi’s bureaucracy from the Aam Aadmi Party-led government.

It was passed in Lok Sabha on August 1. It was then passed in the Rajya Sabha on August 7.

This new law grants the central government authority over bureaucrats in the national capital. Actions like suspensions and inquiries of the national capital’s officials would be under the control of the center.
