Depression to Trigger Heavy Rains in Odisha till August 3

Bhubaneswar: The active low pressure over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression. Because of it heavy rainfall is expected to occur in most parts of Odisha, predicted met office.   An orange warning has been issued to 13 districts in view of heavy to very heavy rainfall tomorrow. Additionally, a yellow warning has been issued to 11 districts as well.

Some areas are likely to experience heavy rainfall ranging from 7 cm to 20 cm.

The IMD had earlier issued orange warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall for isolated places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Sundargarh, Cuttack, and Balasore on Tuesday (August 1). Yellow warning of heavy rainfall has also been issued for one or two places in Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Balangir and Nuapada districts.

WIND WARNING

Squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is prevailing over North & adjoining Central Bay of Bengal and along & off Bangladesh-West Bengal coasts and 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is prevailing along & off North Odisha coast. It is likely to increase and become 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph over North & adjoining Central Bay of Bengal and along & off West Bengal- Bangladesh coasts during next 12-hours and 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph along & off North Odisha coast during the same period. Thereafter, the same wind speed would continue over the above regions for subsequent 12 hours and decrease thereafter.

SEA CONDITION

Rough to very rough sea condition is very likely to prevail over North & adjoining Central Bay of Bengal and along & off Bangladesh-West Bengal-North Odisha coasts till forenoon of August 2.

During the subsequent 24 hours (August 2), heavy to very heavy rain is likely to lash isolated places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi and Kandhamal. Heavy rainfall may occur at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Balsore, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Nabarangpur.

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is likely to occur at most places across the state on these days.
