Doctor Arrested for Doing Sex-Determination Tests in Cuttack

Cuttack: Dr Punyashlok Das was arrested on charges of performing pre-natal sex-determination tests following raid at his premises in Friends Colony of Cuttack by Odisha Health Department officials and the local police.

The joint team rescued a female patient from the premises of the arrested doctor. Abortion pills, an ultrasound machine, and a bag containing cash were seized from the possession of the erring doctor.

Acting on a tip-off, the Odisha Health Department officials raided Dr Punyashlok’s residence and found ample evidence regarding illegal sex determination tests being performed there.

For similar offences, Dr Punyashlok was suspended twice in the past. But he continued carrying out illegal sex determination tests on pregnant women with the help of his wife and son. The State Health Department is planning to recommend for the termination of Dr Punyashlok’s medical license.
