Election Commission Censures Supriya Shrinate, Dilip Ghosh For Derogatory Remarks Against Women

New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday issued a censure to BJP leader Dilip Ghosh and Congress’ Supriya Shrinate for making derogatory remarks against women. The ECI found their comments to be in violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and warned them to exercise caution in their public statements during the MCC period.

Additionally, the ECI announced that their election-related communications would be closely monitored starting Monday.

Shrinate came under scrutiny for a controversial social media post targeting Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut, who is contesting from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, as a BJP candidate in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Shrinate removed the purported post, claiming they were posted by someone else with access to her accounts.

Ghosh faced criticism for mocking the family background of Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee in a video. He later apologized for his remarks against the West Bengal Chief Minister.

Copies of the warning were sent to the respective party chiefs to sensitize their members about adhering to the model code guidelines and refraining from derogatory comments.
