Emergency Declared in Ethiopia Following Clashes Between Miltia & Army

Because of the continuing clashes between the military and local militiamen in the Amhara region, Ethiopia’s federal government on Friday declared a state of emergency.

The notification by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s office announcing the state of emergency, however, did not clarify whether it applied only in Amhara or across the country.

Earlier this week fierce fighting broke out Fano militia and the Ethiopian National Defence Force (ENDF) across Amhara, Ethiopia’s second-largest region. It has become a major security crisis for the country.
