3 Killed 16 Missing as landslide Hits Kedarnath Yatra Route

New Delhi: Bodies of three out of 19 persons could be traced after a heavy rainfall-induced landslide hit the Kedarnath Yatra route in Uttarakhand. Search operation continues to locate the other 16 missing persons.

Nearly 19 people went missing after heavy rains caused flash floods and a landslide on the Kedarnath Yatra route in Uttarakhand on Thursday night, reported India Today.

As per reports, several shops were also washed away near the Gaurikund.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have started rescue operations in the landslide region.

Heavy rains caused the landslide. As per initial reports, some devotees from Nepal are among the people missing in the landslide.

An orange alert for heavy rains on Friday was sounded in Pauri, Tehri, Rudraparayag, and Dehradun of Uttarakhand.

A yellow alert was issued for Chamoli, Nainital, Champawat, Almora, and Bageshwar.
