Ex-CM of Maharashtra Ashok Chavan Resigns From Congress, May Join BJP

Mumbai: Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan resigned from the Congress on Monday ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. According to reports, he is expected to join the BJP.

The former chief minister and former MP Ashok Chavan resigned from the party’s primary membership. According to sources, The senior leader may get a ticket to the Rajya Sabha.

Chavan’s resignation is the second major jolt to the Congress in Maharashtra in recent days. A few days back, former Union minister Milind Deora, resigned from the Congress to join the Shiv Sena led by Shinde.

According to sources, Chavan is learnt to have submitted his resignation as an MLA to the Maharashtra Assembly Speaker. He may join the BJP in New Delhi.

Chavan has expressed displeasure over the functioning of state Congress chief Nana Patole.
