Ex-PM Imran Khan No More Head of PTI He Founded, Gohar Khan Replaces Him

Jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday was replaced as head of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the party he established, by Gohar Khan.

Imran launched the PTI party in 1996. In 2018 his party became the largest party in the Pakistan National Assembly to make him the PM.

He was ousted from power in 2022 in a no-confidence vote. He has been in jail since August awaiting trial in several cases.

He was replaced as the chairman of the PTI by Gohar Khan, a barrister not related to Imran. The PTI made this change as the Election Commission of Pakistan warned PTI in October that the party may lose their symbol, a cricket bat unless an internal election was held for party posts.

Imran Khan was barred from contesting the PTI party poll as he is in prison.
