Leaves of Govt Officials in 5 South Odisha Districts cancelled For Approaching Cyclonic Storm

Bhubaneswar: Leaves of all field officials of five southern districts were cancelled by the Odisha government keeping in view the possibility of rains due to the approaching clonic storm over the southwest Bay of Bengal.

The leaves of agriculture officials of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam were cancelled from December 2 to 6 including Sunday.

The officials were directed to remain alert during the warning period from December 2 to 6 and sensitize the farmers to take appropriate steps to protect paddy and other crops.

As per the IMD bulletin, the depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal is likely to move west-northwestwards, intensifying into a Cyclonic Storm over Southwest Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours. It is to cross South Andhra Pradesh coasts between Nellore and Machilipatnam during the forenoon of 5th December as a Cyclonic Storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 80-90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph.

Because of this cyclonic storm, districts in the southern region of Odisha are expected to receive heavy rainfall from December 4 to 6.
