Ethics Committee Recommends Expulsion of Mahua Moitra, Opposition MPs Submit Dissent Notice

New Delhi: The Lok Sabha Ethics Committee has adopted a 500-page report recommending the expulsion of Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra, citing accusations of sharing her Parliament login with industrialist Darshan Hiranandani, who posted questions on Adani on the Parliament site.

Six members of the committee supported the decision, while JD(U) MP Giridhari Yadav expressed concerns over the lack of discussion among committee members. He criticized the process, citing it as a violation of rules, and drew parallels to the Mahabharat, stating, “Mahabharat (war) took place because of Draupadi’s cheer-haran.”

Meanwhile, BSP MP Danish Ali, facing criticism in the draft report for an outburst during a previous meeting, asserted that he won’t tolerate the insult of a woman. Opposition MPs, who protested against inappropriate questions posed to Moitra during the committee’s earlier session, have submitted a dissent notice on the draft report.

Moitra denied the cash and gift allegations but admitted to sharing her Parliament credentials with Hiranandani, insisting it was not a security breach. The report will now be submitted to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla for further action.
