TMC MP Mahua Moitra Expelled from Lok Sabha Over ‘Cash-for-Query’ Scandal

New Delhi: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra faced expulsion from Lok Sabha on Friday in connection with the ‘cash-for-query’ case.

The motion for her expulsion, presented by the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, successfully passed through a voice vote. The Ethics Committee of Parliament had earlier found Moitra guilty in the same case, further recommending her removal from Lok Sabha.

During a brief discussion on the Ethics Committee’s report, Congress MP Manish Tewari, TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee, Sudip Bandyopadhyay, and JDU MP Giridhari Yadav opposed the committee’s recommendation. In contrast, BJP MP Dr Heena V Gavit and Aparajita Sarangi voiced their support for the Ethics Committee’s proposal.

This development unfolded as the Lok Sabha deliberated on the findings of the Ethics Committee regarding the ‘cash-for-query’ allegations against Mahua Moitra.
