Arrested TMC Leader’s Wife Lodges FIR Against NIA Officers Alleging Misconduct

Kolkata: The wife of Monobrata Jana, a TMC leader recently arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with a 2022 blast case in West Bengal, has filed an FIR against NIA officials. She alleges that the officials tried to outrage her modesty during a raid on her residence in Bhupatinagar.

Moni Jana, in her complaint to the Bhupatinagar police station, also accused the NIA officers of vandalizing her property during the raid on Saturday morning.

The NIA had arrested two key suspects, Balai Charan Maity and Manobrata Jana, in the Purba Medinipur blast case, where three individuals lost their lives. Following the arrests, tension escalated as a mob reportedly attacked the NIA team during their operation in Bhupatinagar. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticized the NIA, alleging assault on villagers by investigators.

The NIA reported injuries to one of its officers and damage to a vehicle during the attack. Despite complaints filed by NIA officials, the police are yet to make any arrests in connection with the assault on the investigative team.

This incident echoes a similar occurrence on January 5, where a team from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) faced a mob attack during a search operation at the residence of TMC leader Shajahan Sheikh. The ED team was investigating alleged irregularities in the public distribution system in North 24 Parganas district’s Sandeshkhali.
