Fire Breaks Out in Bhubaneswar-Howrah Jan Shatabdi Express at Cuttack

Cuttack: Passengers were panicked when a fire broke out in a compartment of the 12074 Bhubaneswar-Howrah Jan Shatabdi Express at Cuttack station on Thursday morning.

Railway officials took immediate measures to extinguish the fire and because of it the train was detained at the Cuttack railway station for about 45 minutes till 7.15 am, an official release of the East Coast Railway said.

Some passengers waiting for the train at the Cuttack station noticed the fire at the bottom of a compartment.  Smoke was coming out of the brake shoe of the compartment. According to railway authorities, no one was harmed in this incident.

Fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire and after proper checking the train was allowed to leave the station.

The fire was caused due to brake-binding (brake not released from the wheel). The ECoR authorities are investigating the cause of the non-release of the brake.
