Former Congress MLA Chiranjib Biswal Joins BJD Ahead Of Lok Sabha Polls

Bhubaneswar: Former two-time MLA Chiranjib Biswal on Sunday joined the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Odisha, just a day after parting ways with the Congress ahead of the upcoming 2024 elections. The induction ceremony took place at Shankha Bhawan in Bhubaneswar, where Biswal was warmly welcomed into the BJD fold by esteemed party leaders, including Rajya Sabha members Sasmit Patra and Manas Mangaraj.

Expressing his reasons for joining the regional powerhouse, Biswal emphasized his admiration for the remarkable accomplishments and contributions of Naveen Patnaik to the development of Odisha across various sectors.

“I have not joined the BJD for personal gain. My decision stems from a deep-seated inspiration by Naveen Patnaik’s leadership, and I am committed to working tirelessly under his guidance for the betterment of Jagatsinghpur district,” Biswal stated during the event.

Son of the late Basant Kumar Biswal, a revered figure in Congress circles and former Deputy Chief Minister of Odisha, Chiranjib Biswal’s political journey began with his election to the Odisha Legislative Assembly from Tirtol in 2004 under the Congress banner. His electoral success continued in 2014 when he secured victory from the Jagatsinghpur constituency.

Prior to joining BJD, Biswal held significant roles within the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) as its Vice-President and also served as a distinguished member of the All India Congress Committee (AICC).
