Fraud Poses as Income Tax Officer to Rob Rs 1 Lakh from Doctor in Balangir

Titlagarh: A fraudster was arrested by the police in the Titlagarh area of Balangir district on charges of taking away Rs 1 lakh from a doctor by posing as an Income Tax officer.

The cheat identified himself as Smita Kumar Seth before the police. An investigation is on to ascertain the real identity of this arrested fraudster.

This man allegedly reached the paediatrician Dr Gopabandhu Sahu’s house at Balangir Road in a white four-wheeler and identified himself as an officer of the Income Tax Department. He threatened to initiate stringent action against the doctor for his alleged tax evasion. On the pretext of search, the fraudster took away Rs 2 lakh cash from the wardrobe saying it was seized.

When the doctor’s wife told about the incident to her brother, he suspected something fishy and informed the police. With the help of Saintala police, the accused was at Naveen Chowk.

The car used by the accused was also seized.
