Government Lawyer Booked for Raping Woman in Kerala, Resigns

Thiruvananthapuram: A senior government prosecutor of the Kerala High Court submitted his resignation following rape charges against him. The office of the Attorney General of Kerala directed him to resign from the post.

The said government pleader, PG Manu, had to resign after a 25-year-old woman lodged a complaint at the Chottanikkara police in Ernakulam district on Wednesday alleging that he had raped her in October.

The accused lawyer was booked under sections 376 (rape), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. As per the victim, the accused raped her several times, including at his office in Kadavanthra and at her residence. The complaint further alleged that the lawyer shot private videos and photos of her on his phone. The victim has recorded her statement with the police and further probe is underway.
