Hemant Soren Approaches Supreme Court Challenging Arrest by ED

New Delhi: JMM leader and former Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren on Thursday moved the Supreme Court challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case.

A bench comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra accepted his petition and the hearing of the case will be held on Friday.

Senior lawyers Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Singhvi represented Soren and informed the Supreme Court that Soren would withdraw his plea from the Jharkhand High Court on the issue.

ED arrested Soren on Wednesday night in the case after he resigned as the Jharkhand Chief Minister. He was arrested after 7-hour-long interrogation by the ED officials. State transport minister Champai Soren was named as the new CM of Jharkhand.
