Hangzhou: The Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou has begun, and India aims to surpass its impressive performance from the 2018 edition. Back then, the Indian contingent, consisting of 570 members, secured a record-breaking 80 medals. In this year’s tournament, the target is set even higher, with hopes of crossing the 100-medal mark.
The Indian team got off to a promising start as the women’s shooting team clinched the first medals for the nation on September 24. Here’s a recap of the initial successes:
1. Shooting, Women’s 10m Air Rifle Team: The Mehuli Ghosh, Ramita, and Ashi Chouksey trio secured a silver medal in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle Team event. They displayed excellent shooting skills, accumulating a total score of 1886.
2. Rowing, Men’s Doubles Sculls: Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh formed a formidable pair, earning a silver medal in the Lightweight Men’s Double Sculls with a remarkable timing of 6 minutes and 28.18 seconds.
3. Rowing, Men’s Pair: Lekh Ram and Babu Lal Yadav teamed up to claim a bronze medal, finishing third in the Men’s Pair category with a time of 6 minutes and 50.41 seconds.
4. Rowing, Men’s Eight: India’s rowing success continued as the Men’s Eight team secured another silver medal, adding to the growing medal tally.
5. Shooting, Women’s 10m Air Rifle Individual: Ramita Jindal, who had already won a silver medal as part of the women’s team, shone once again by clinching a bronze medal in the individual event of the 10m Air Rifle category. She achieved an impressive cumulative score of 230.1.
