INDIA Bloc To Hold Nationwide Protest Against MP Suspensions On December 22

New Delhi: After the conclusion of the fourth INDIA alliance meeting on Tuesday, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge announced plans for a nationwide protest on December 22 against the suspension of 141 MPs. The suspension followed a disturbance over the Opposition’s demand for a statement from Union Minister Amit Shah on the Parliament security breach incident.

Kharge stated, “We’ve taken decisive steps regarding the suspended MPs. We consider this suspension unjust and are committed to fighting against it. All-India protests are scheduled for December 22.” Emphasizing unity, he mentioned that 28 parties participated in the fourth meeting of the alliance in the national capital.

“We’ve collectively resolved that these suspensions are undemocratic. We are determined to safeguard democracy and are ready to take action. The issue of the Parliament security breach has been repeatedly raised, urging Union HM Amit Shah or PM Modi to address it in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, but they’ve declined,” added Kharge.

The ‘Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance’ (INDIA) bloc, led by the Congress, aims to present a united front against the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The fourth meeting occurred amidst escalating political tensions between the Opposition and the central government.

A record 141 MPs were suspended from Parliament, contributing to the alliance’s call for a nationwide protest. The alliance, formed to counter the NDA’s bid for a third consecutive term, previously adopted resolutions during meetings in Patna, Bengaluru, and Mumbai. The theme for the 2024 elections, “Judega Bharat, Jeetega India” (India will unite, India will win), reflects the bloc’s determination to challenge the ruling BJP-led government.
