PM Modi, Xi Jinping Agree to Expedite De-Escalation Along LAC

Johannesburg: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping held discussions during the BRICS Summit in South Africa, focusing on de-escalation efforts along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

The leaders agreed to swiftly address the situation by instructing relevant officials from both countries to expedite disengagement along the LAC. PM Modi highlighted India’s concerns regarding unresolved matters along the LAC and other sections of the India-China border.

Both leaders emphasized the significance of maintaining peace and tranquility in the border regions and respecting the LAC. This is essential for normalizing India-China relations and ensuring a conducive environment for diplomatic relations.

The 19th round of India-China Corps Commander-level discussions took place at the Chushul-Moldo border meeting point, focusing on resolving remaining issues in the western sector of the LAC.

The BRICS Summit was also attended by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Russian President Vladimir Putin in a virtual format. The summit concluded with a declaration from the BRICS leaders, urging the swift finalization and adoption of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism within the UN framework. The leaders reasserted their commitment to combat terrorism in all forms and manifestations, devoid of associations with religion, nationality, civilization, or ethnic groups.
