IOA to Ban Wrestler Antim Panghal for 3 Years Over Misuse of Olympics Accreditation: Reports

New Delhi: Indian wrestler Antim Panghal is set to face a three-year ban from the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) for a serious breach of discipline during the Paris Olympics. The decision will be formally announced upon her return to India.

Panghal, who was eliminated in the opening round of the women’s 53kg category, caused a major embarrassment to the Indian contingent by attempting to gain unauthorized access for her sister into the athletes’ village using her accreditation card.

French authorities intercepted the incident, leading to the immediate removal of Panghal and her support staff from the Olympics. Her sister was detained by the police for impersonation.

The IOA has taken a stern view of the matter, considering it a severe violation of the team’s code of conduct.
