Israeli Forces Engage in Fresh Clashes with Hamas Gunmen as Death Toll Crosses 610

Jerusalem: The conflict between the Israeli military and the Palestinian militant group Hamas continues in southern Israel, with over 500 people killed on both sides since Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel.

Northern Israel saw mortar shelling from Lebanon, attributed to Hezbollah, prompting Israeli artillery strikes and a drone attack on a Hezbollah post near the border.

Hamas’s armed wing, Qassam Brigades, remains engaged in fierce clashes in various areas in Israel.

To date, more than 300 people have been killed in Israel, and Operation Iron Swords, launched by the Israel Defense Forces in retaliation, has claimed 313 lives in Gaza, bringing the total death toll to 613.

Israeli bombardment of Gaza also persists.

The Israeli government has cut off electricity supply to the Gaza Strip amid the escalating conflict.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared the conflict a “long and difficult war” and vowed to continue until goals are achieved.

US President Joe Biden approved an $8 billion emergency military aid package to Israel, expressing full support for Israel’s right to self-defence.

Iran’s foreign ministry supported Hamas, characterizing the attack on Israel as an act of self-defence by Palestinians.

Turkey expressed readiness to de-escalate the situation and initiated discussions with regional counterparts.

Hamas accused Israel of provoking the conflict in response to “Israeli atrocities” against Palestinians and the “desecration of the Al Aqsa Mosque.”

Hamas has taken Israeli citizens, including women and children, as hostages, with claims of having a significant number of captives.

The Indian embassy in Tel Aviv and the Representative Office of India in Palestine issued advisories to Indian nationals, urging vigilance and direct contact in case of emergencies.
